Dollvet Experts Meet with Veterinarians in Kazakhstan
Dollvet experts met with veterinarians in Kazakhstan to discuss current protection strategies, vaccination programs, and field solutions against foot-and-mouth disease.
Spread of SAT1 to Central Asia
In recent years, exotic serotypes of the foot-and-mouth disease virus have begun threatening new regions, moving beyond their usual geographical boundaries. In 2023, the SAT2 serotype reached the Middle East and Türkiye; before its impact had fully subsided, SAT1 affected the same region in 2025. As of 2026, SAT1 has spread as far as Central Asia and China.
Immunity in foot-and-mouth disease is serotype-specific: a vaccine against one serotype does not provide protection against others. This means the entry of a new serotype into a region can suddenly render existing vaccination programs insufficient. With its rapidly growing livestock sector, Kazakhstan faces this risk directly — making the timing and significance of the meeting all the more critical.
Scientific Approach to Vaccine Selection
Dollvet Senior Technical Manager Dr. Sinan Aktaş addressed the regional risk map of SAT1, the production technologies used in FMD vaccines, and the role of purification processes in minimizing side effects during the meetings.

Dr. Aktaş emphasized that vaccine efficacy is directly linked to compatibility with field strains, noting that Dollvet vaccines undergo matching tests at the World Reference Laboratories for Foot-and-Mouth Disease before market release. Matching tests verify the antigenic compatibility between the vaccine strain and the virus circulating in the field — a critical step in vaccine selection. Purification technologies are equally decisive in minimizing adverse reactions and maintaining herd performance post-vaccination.

Field Solutions for Dairy Cattle
Dr. Nedim Üzey focused on Kazakhstan’s rapidly expanding dairy cattle sector. As the country’s milk production capacity grows, sustainable herd health management is becoming an increasingly vital concern. Dr. Üzey evaluated the key health challenges herds face under intensive production conditions and shared Dollvet’s preventive and supportive solutions with the attending veterinarians.
Dollvet continues to protect beyond borders with its science-backed products and field experience against global threats.
